I found this on RootsWeb:

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:3263244&id=I3599

It gives John's place of birth as Heversham, Westmorland.

Hello Pughy,
I have recently come across records that I am related to John Gibson. Through his I am assuming sister named Betty Gibson in Lytham, Lancashire. Mind you I now wonder if this Betty was his daughter. (She married Robert Grundy in 1773 in Lytham.

Please contact me, I am hoping I can at least share what I have on Betty.

I have also recently come across a cousin related to this same family. She lives in Yorkshire. I live in Toronto Canada, but was brought up as a youngster in Manchester England.
All my best and my hopes you will try and contact me.

Hello Rambler,
I tried to open the following but there seems to be a problem.

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:3263244&id=I3599

Please can you help me? I am also researching the Reverend John Gibson, he is my many times great grandfather. Any assistance in opening the site would be greatly appreciated.

My thanks

Hi Rambler,
I found the birth records for the Reverend John Gibsons children. Doing very well with Johns wife and her family, she is proving to be very interesting. Lots of work sorting out the various church records and typing them up, but that's what makes this hobby so interesting. I am working in the very early 1600's should shortly be starting on the 1500's records.

I still need help in opening the web site you posted, that would help me with the Reverend John.

Can I help you with any street locations in Manchester dating back to 1844, or south east Lancashire dating 1894?

I am probably a little late coming to this discussion but I am currently researching Rev John Gibson baptised 16 Dec 1772 at Heversham, Westmorland who married Jane Bigland 10 Feb 1745 at Priory Church of St Mary and St Michael Cartmel.  John was the son of Robert Gibson and Elizabeth Greenwood - this is were I am currently at since I cannot find Robert Gibson's or Elizabeth Greenwood's baptism.  Robert (birthplace Ackenthwait) married Elizabeth (birthplace Whasset) in 1721 at Witherslack Westmorland.
Betty who was mentioned is probably John's daughter Betty Gibson baptised 22 Jun 1755 at Holy Trinity Poulton-le-Sands.

I have no family connection with Rev. Gibson. However I'm grateful for the record-keeping at Lytham during his tenure. Most of all that the birth of my 4xGGM in 1765 was recorded in St. Cuthbert's baptism register. Her baptism is missing from baptism register of Lytham Hall Catholic mission. Details of family members on 1767 Return of Papists for parish of Lytham matched registers of parish church and Catholic mission. Ages of 2 of my 5xGGMs and the information that they were both born out of the parish were on 1767 return. I also gleaned a lot more information about the extended family from those records. So well done, Reverend Gibson.

Yes the Lytham records are quite good, although there are some missing years on-line but Lancashire as a whole is very good and I notice it when I move out of the county when researching
