Disappearance of part of Rootschat
« on: Monday 08 November 04 09:53 GMT (UK) »
When I first joined, the "Home" page gave me all the options of where I could go.  Now I never get "The common room" and "lighter side" bit onscreen, only England onwards.  Also, many parts seem to be written on top of each other and are not clickable.

My computer is a Mac 8.5 and I cannot download Flash on it.  Is this the problem or do I have a virus or something?  (NOT a computer literate person).

By the way I am now also having problems with Leicester University's Historical Directories site, could it all be the same problem.??

This could be a browser problem.  Are you using IE for Mac or another browser, might be worth trying the latest IE for Mac

The common room is right at the bottom on my browser.

The problems could be browser related as I also have problems accessing Leicester University's Historical Directories site, using anything other than Internet Explorer.

Thanks both of you for your interest.  I am using Internet Explorer 5.1 as my browser.

Thanks again.  I'll have to wait till my son gets in to translate your last two messages! (me - not IT litereate).I know we have tried to download this "flash" thing many times as we are gradually being excluded from so much on the web because we don't have it, but our computer isn't quite powerful enough to take it.

According to the information I read the version of the Macs operating system that you are using 8.5 ( ie OS 8.5) was the first to incorporate the ability to read flash files within the system.
It obviously wasn't all that successful as the flash player developed even further .... the version I supplied the link for is for the latest version of the operating system for apple computers which is known as OS X (Operation System ten) ... I don't know if it would work on your system but from what friends have told me about the mac's operating system I doubt it very much. If I come across an older version available online I'll post the address for it on here.
