Re:-  Coroners Warrant.?
Not the same as Coroners Report, or Coroners Inquest.
All separate events.
Warrant. = Coroner request for evidence to be made available ( Medical reports etc.)
Inquest. =  Inquiring into how & why the death happened . ( eye witnesses etc )
Report. = Summing up. And conclusions as to the death based on the above.

How about the eldest son's possible marriage Mike.

Births Jun 1858
Baxter  John Thomas    Leicester  7a 180

Marriages Jun 1875
BANBURY  Ada    Leicester  7a 395
BAXTER  John Thomas     Leicester  7a 395

On the 1881 census John T and wife Ada were in Belgrave. John was a stoker in a cotton mill but aged 26. In 1891 still in Belgrave, he was Thomas a labourer aged 34 and by 1901 he was John T. a bricklayer's labourer aged 40 living in the St. Nicholas district of Leicester.

It would seem that we must wait until Mike can get to the Registry Office to try and track down the actual date of birth of Charles Henry Baxter.  (Thanks Mike).  No nearer as yet as to the place and date of death of this elusive man, but as the "A" team are working hard on the subject, I am sure that one of you will come up with some suggestions. Thanks to all of you. The Scarlet Pimpernel comes to mind.  "They seek him here, they seek him there" etc.

Have you checked the quarterly General Registry online indexes

http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx

for Charles' death? Unless you have and he hasn't been found I'm not sure there is a mystery there about Charles' death considering the information you have which seems specific about place and approximate date.

However I do think there is a bit of a question around what happened to Benjamin. I can't see his death in the GRO indexes.

  Hi Valda....

 I sent Maeve one....

Charles Henry Baxter  1916 Nottingham...thats possible as his sister  lived there he is age 56.....should be about 50 but 56--50 could be wrongly transcribed into the quarterlies  7b 338   q4 Nottingham.

Tazzie, there is some competition for possible Charles Henry Baxter deaths in Nottingham if the 1901 census is anything to go by.

1901 census - both living in Nottingham

Charles H Baxter single born Nottinghamshire son of Samuel and Eliza, aged 36, a stationary engine driver.

and

Charles Hy Baxter single born London son of Mary aged 40 a bricklayer

I believe from Maeve he was a witness to a marriage in 1917 (no exact date) in Hunslet, but dead (or at least claimed dead) by his daughter on her marriage 21st April 1924 also in Hunslet, though he was believed to have died in Nottingham.
So the window is 1917 to early 1924, but bearing in mind from the 1901 census you have a doppleganger (36 on the 1901 census) who could  potentially be in Nottingham and could have his death registered as Charles H. also.

To the "A" Team from Maeve

Have actual marriage certificates of the following:
1920

28 Dec 1920 St Josephs Catholic Church Hunslet Leeds.

David Dunwell age 31 Bach.  Father William Dunwell
Married  Jessie Ethel Baxter age 27 Spinster.  Father Charles Henry Baxter.

Witnesses to marriage were:
Emma Baxter and Charles Henry Baxter

(The witness Emma Baxter (nee Gillen) could have been the wife of Charles Henry or his daughter of the same name).
No mention of father being deceased.Jessie Ethel Baxter was the daughter of Charles Henry and Emma (nee Gillen) Baxter, born in Leicester September 9th 1893

1924

21st April 1924 at St Josephs Catholic Church Hunslet Leeds

Alexander Edward Wilson age 21 Bach.  Father Jim Wilson (deceased)
Married Emma Baxter age 18 Spinster.  Father Charles Henry Baxter (deceased)

Witnesses to marriage were: Walter Baxter and Anne Barker

Emma was the daughter of Charles Henry and Emma (nee Gillen) Baxter.
She was born in Leicestershire on 2nd July 1905.  Died 10th June 1941 in Leeds.

This is the only certificate with confirmation that father Charles Henry Baxter is deceased

1925

15th August 1925 at St Josephs Catholic Church Hunslet Leeds.

Walter Baxter age 22 Bach.  Father Charles Henry Baxter
Married Annie Elizabeth Barker age 19.  Spinster.  Father Jonas Barker.

Witnesses to marriage were Gertrude Harrison and John William Baxter

Walter Baxter was the son of Charles Henry Baxter and Emma (nee Gillen) Baxter.  Born in Leicestershire 13th August 1902

Although the latter certificate is dated one year later than the previous one of his sister Emma Baxtetr, it does not state on this certificate that the father was deceased.  Could have been an oversite when filling in certificate.
