In answer to the above comments

Death of Priscilla in Exeter.... sounds most interesting. I don't suppose anyone can find a Priscilla Pearson in Exeter in 1861 can they ? (which would immediately remove this as a possibility) Otherwise I might have to order this certificate because you're right, it fits nicely, even if it is in the wrong part of the country.

Birth of Eliza to John and Elizabeth in Dudley, yes, this looks perfect, but I can't then find them in the census.....

Witnesses to the Darius/Priscilla wedding were Robert and Lucy Ann Reece. Neither seem to have any immediate relationship to bride or groom, that I can find, unless anyone knows better. After a search on bmd I think that Lucy Ann's maiden name was Mees. But Darius and Elizabeth did have a daughter called Lucy Ann.

Thanks you guys. This is all very interesting.

Oh forgot to say, there were no addresses on the marriage certificate. The marriage took place in Brierley Hill, Staffordshire and both residences are just listed as Brierley Hill parish. Curse those lazy parish clerks, they always miss the address off certificates when I most need it.

Hi LBD....guess what. No Priscilla Rogers that i can see  in 1861, in Exeter either from Exeter or born in another county living in Exeter. I am still looking for a marriage between Darius and an Elizabeth.

Thanks cheryle. So that's another one I've got to keep on the list.
So annoying that death indexes don't give the age at death in 1865.
While Exeter is rather a long way from Dudley, I don't see that as a problem. Virtually all Darius' brothers and sisters left Dudley and moved to different and remote parts of the country.

So I might have to order that certificate at some stage......

P.S. If Priscilla and Elizabeth were sisters and Priscilla died then there wouldn;t have been a second marriage - marriage with deceased wife's sister?? Definately not legal!!

With all the help you lot have given me, I've gone back to the beginning to go through all the information again and I think I might have found a clue.

In 1881, there is a family of Pearsons living in Runcorn. Head of the household is one John Pearson, aged 33, born Netherton in Worcestershire. Netherton is part of Dudley. Surely this can't be a coincidence?

John Pearson   Head   M   33   Iron Moulder    Netherton, Worcester
 Eliza M. Pearson
 Wife     M     32          Birmingham, Warwick
 Annie M. Pearson
Daur          7     Scholar     Barrow In Furness, Lancashire
John A. Pearson     Son          5     Scholar     Runcorn, Cheshire
Clara Pearson     Daur          4     Scholar     Runcorn, Cheshire
 William H. Pearson
 Son          2          Runcorn, Cheshire
James Pearson    Son          9 m          Runcorn, Cheshire

I can't believe I never spotted this before. John would be the right age to be a younger brother of Elizabeth/Priscilla. I could order his marriage certificate to find out who his father was, but in the meantime, can anyone tell me where the family got to after 1881 and whether it gives us any further clues?

Many thanks
LBD *with a head buzzing in circles*
