Have you got Emma in other census (1861/1871/1881), if so, where? Nottingham? and if so, was her place of birth indicated other than Middlesex, London?
London Middlesex is a big place!

These are the only details available as written in the census of the following years:

1861 - London
1871 - Middlesex London
1881 - London london Middlesex
1901 - London

Looking at the above I would go for London???

Peter ???

London is either Middlesex or Surrey (north or south of the Thames).

We know that she was born in Middlesex London, unfortunately it would take a few months to look through several million people under Middlesex London!

Hopefully someone will find your Emma in a name index (on microfiche)for the 1851 Middlesex census and provide you with the census details or the reference details to enable a lookup, from that, it could lead to a lookup of the 1841 census?

Keep your fingers crossed

Thanks for looking

Its sometimes difficult with so little info to go on

Time, patience and the right resources will do the trick

Can you suggest which are considered the best CDROM's avaiable for Middlesex and London

Best regards and many thanks

Don't despair yet, someone might well find your Emma in the Middlesex 1851 and if they do ? I will always lookup that address in the 1841 for you.

The problem might arise that she wasn't in London, Middlesex in 1851, she could have been in Nottingham or somewhere enroute? as she would have been approx 18.

Census CD's come best as a package of Middlesex & Surrey combined(London is split between the two Counties on the Stepping Stones CD's). They are available as singles, but as eggs are eggs as soon as youv'e bought one you will have need for the other! Guaranteed.

S&N  supply the 1841 & 1851 census at    www.BritishDataArchive.com    they could be the best? not sure how they formulate London, so it would be wise to check!
or
Stepping Stones supply the 1841 census, I have Stepping Stones (the first supplier I looked at!) at    www.stepping-stones.co.uk
