I now think that the Ross and Cromarty link might be a red herring.  I think that FamilySearch.org (other research sites are available) might have linked Milntown - where James indicated he was from on his marriage certificate - as being Milntown, Ross and Cromarty; it could possibly be Milntown in Dumfriesshire. I think that is more likely (for no other reason than they are closer to Aryshire!).

There are one or two Roxburghs buried in Loudoun Kirkyard, I have a little bit of info on them - at least one is tied in with the name Lindsay.     Have a look at our wiki http://loudounkirk.wetpaint.com.  I have been adding a lot of registrations for birth, marriages and death for the Loudoun/Galston area and I know one in particular is associated with a ghost story!!  E-mail me direct for more info.

I now think that I may have made 2 + 2 + 25!  Now not sure that I am related to AH; at least not via that path that I thought!

My great grandmother was from Galston, Ayr, Scotland.  Her name was Mary Roxburgh, daughter of Andrew and Mary Hindlay (Henley) Roxburgh.  He was born in 1833 in Galston.  They married in Stewarton in 1856.  Andrew's parents were John Roxburgh and Agnes Sharp.  I cannot find much on Mary Hindlay, other than she was born around 1835 in Kilmarnock.

Mary Roxburgh came to the US in the late 1880s, married a John Clyde, and had two sons:  William and Eschol.  Both John and Mary died at an early age, leaving the two young sons to be raised by her sister.

I have a haunting photograph (studio) of Mary and her two sons, William and Eschol (my grandfather.)  I wonder about her - what was her live like and why did she leave Scotland.

From what I can find, her father, Andrew came to the US in 1900.

Any suggestions as to finding out more about this side of my family?  Does anyone else out there have this connection?

It would appear that Mary's father was Joseph Hindlay, a soldier and her mum Lillias Crawford.
Hope that helps

Hello,
Just started trying to trace the Roxburgh arm of my family tree. The details I have are
James Roxburgh b 1868 d1939m 1)Annie kenyon Douglas m 2) Jessie Mathilde Lindsay, (James was born at D(orH)onoch Cottage, Galston, Ayrshire)

James Roxburgh (1868-1939)
Father = James Roxburgh
Mother = Mary Donaldson
Siblings= Agnes, Jean, Joanna, Mary and  John

 Any ideas where would be the best place to look next? I haven't done any Scottish research before....does the census etc cover Scotland too?

I have your whole family history, been doing it for years. We are cousins. Get back to me!!

Not sure if AH is still around (I have sent a PM) but I think that we are related.  I just discovered (last night) that James Roxburgh (b 1836) was my great-great grandfather!

Please get in touch with me. I'm related to you and have more information about the Roxburghs than you can believe including relatives in New Zealand, South Africa, the States, England, Scotland and Canada where I am.
Cheers,
Georgina
