hi
i am hoping someone can provide information on this street and its inhabitants.  my grandparents lived on this street from approx 1919 and was still living there in 1931 mentioned in a trades directory.  my grandfather CHRISTOPHER O'SHEA and his wife MARY were master tailors. somebody may have photographs or stories to share regarding this street during this period of time

Hiya Berni,

I found a little bit of the history of Barrack Street but these events took place prior to the days when your grandparents were there. A large number of people died in the workhouse, now the site of the Secondary
School in Barrack Street. A number of these unfortunate people were buried in a mass grave near Carra
Church (known as "Bully's Acre") where a plaque has recently been erected in their memory. Source: Best Photos Ireland.com

I feel that the best person to answer your query about the period from 1919 to 1931 might be the Longford County Archivist. I imagine if he is unable to answer your query he should be able to point you in the right direction.

Mr. Martin Morris,
County Archivist,
Longford County Library Headquarters,
Town Centre,
Longford,
Ireland.

The email address is in the link.

Hi Berni,

It's great to see you back.

No problems about being offline for a year ... there was no need for apologise.
