May I suggest the following site for you to search:

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/

Here you will find an incomplete version of the civil registration index for England and Wales.

OR

as an alternative another incomplete version is available here:

http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8912

or the complete version here:

http://www.rootschat.com/links/04s/  Marriages
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0v8/ Births

Once you find the people you are looking for the results will show in the following format:

Year and Quarter, Name, District, Volume and Page Number.

With this information you will be able to request the following certificates from the General Register Office http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

Please note that for any births, deaths or marriages before 1837 you will need to view parish registers.  Civil Registration in England and Wales didn't begin until 1837.

Parish registers are available to view on microfice at the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth http://www.llgc.org.uk/   You will also find full details of their research service.

Hello Pat

How did you conduct your search on the complete BMD index on Ancestry?

You need to search year by year, quarter by quarter, a long and tedious task but worth it in the end.  They must be there somewhere.

Lets start with the info you have provided:

Have you found any of them in the census returns?
Are years and places of birth consistent throughout?
Have you obtained children's birth certificates to confirm mother's maiden names?

Post all the information that you have and I will see what I can find for you.

I thought I'd have a quick look anyway, and found this:

Marriages North Wales Free BMD

Lloyd, John Thomas ~ Rachel Jones on the same page
Church: Meifod, Ss Tysilio and Mary
Registers at: Welshpool
Reference: CL18/1/164

Click here to take you to the request form for you to print out and complete, as far as possible.  Address to send it is at the bottom ;)

I forgot to mention this website to you in my earlier post.  I use it all the time, and what is good about it is you are sending your request to the local register offices which offer a much quicker service than the GRO.

With surnames such as Lloyd and Jones, you need to know their father's names in order to obtain the correct birth certificates.  It's so easy to go down the wrong track.  I just hope that their marriage certificate gives details of their fathers.

Levi Jones b? 1836 Llanfair

You're in luck with Levi - if year of birth was pre-1837 then you would need to check parish registers, BUT:

Births 1838
Levi Jones
Llanfair Caereinion
Registers at: Welshpool
Reference: Llanfair/01/30

Click here for another form to print out and complete!!
