I understand 'East Meath' to be all of the coastal (and near coastal) parishs/towns in Meath as follows:

Gormanstown, Ballygarth, Colp, Julianstown, Moorechurch, Bettystown (Betaghstown), Laytown, Ninch, Mornington, Donacarney ....... also maybe Duleek, Donore, Oldcastle....

I've never seen a definate answer to your question written down anywhere Bodger... but hope this helps somewhat.  Kind regards, Karen

I came across this site:

http://www.dunsany.net/castle1.htm

At the top of the page it states:

"Meath (the current county, formerly known as "East Meath", and County Westmeath, combined) once formed a seperate, fifth, province of Ireland, which was the territory of the High King (Ard Ri); today, this is all within the eastern province, Leinster. " ...

I cannot remember this myself from my school days history classes :-[ ... if this is correct any old documents   relating to 'East Meath' - would mean all the towns in Meath as it stands today...... can anyone confirm this?...

Thank you. Karen
