WICKENS in Sulham
« on: Thursday 26 October 06 00:35 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I am asking whether there is anyone who is likely to be visiting Berks Record Office whether they would be prepared to do a look up for me in the Sulham registers for a William Wickens who, according to a submitters record on the IGI married Sarah Wickens purportedly born 1852 (cousins?) and another William Wickens circa 1761 who married Sarah Jacob in Sulham in 1789.  I can't get there myself or I would.  Thanks in advance for any help.
Regards
Vicwinann

This is the Confusion, I have found. Help ??? ??? ???

I am so very confused.
Trying to locate, the right Wickens Family Lineage.
Everytime, I think I have it. I find a kink.
Such as, I found records for a William and Sarah Wickens that included baptisms in Paulerspury for 8 Children. Possibly one set of twins.
Sarah and Elizabeth, daughters of William and Sarah July 14, 1705
Judith, daughter of William and Sarah May 11, 1707
Ann, daughter of William and Sarah June 25, 1710
John, son of William and Sarah July 26, 1713
Mary, daughter of William and Sarah Sept 2d or 20, 1716
James, son of William and Sarah Feb 20, 1718
William, son of William and Sarah Sept 13, 1722

I found marriage record for William Wickens and Sarah Gibbins for October 2nd 1704; which would correspond with all those births.

A William born in 1722, Married to a Sarah (no last name) has been connected to my family as the father of Joel born 1785 died 1848.

Joel is married to a Dinah Wickens (Barlow) as the parents of many children Joel 1806-1895, William 1808-?, Mark 1811-1903, Stephen Wickens 1812-1883, Sarah 1814-? Elisa 1816-1904, Jane 1819-? Elizabeth 1821-1914, Thomas 1823-1919, Richard 1826-1907, Mary 1829-?,   **** Harriet 1841-1914 and James 1847-?*****both born to Rosalie.

Stephen Wickens 1812-1883 married Rebecca Wickens (Cooke, Cook) were the parents of so many George 1842, James 1844, Dinah 1846-1881, Thomas 1847-1887, Jane (Jennie) 1850-1927, Elizabeth 1852-?, William R. 1855-1913, Mary 1857-1900, and Rebecca 1859-1936.

William R. married Elizabeth Wickens (Weisbecker) 1862-1943. They in turn only 5 kids. :) As my Aunt says, We are decreasing the population, at this point. Giggles. Clarence 1885-?, Thirza 1887-1963, Chester 1889-1948, Clement F. 1894-1948, Marguerite Rebecca 1895-1985.

Clement F. married Agnes Wickens (Merritt) 1894-1973. They had William Julius Wickens 1921-1986 and Benjamin Wickens 1923-1965.

Benjamin married Kathryn Wickens (Richardson) 1922-1953
they had Thomas died young, Girl baby, J D. Wickens 1940's- present and C Wickens 1940's-present.

J married D and they had me and my two sisters.

Are we dealing with the same family?
Wickens
Richardson
Irwin
Hyde
Merrit

Welcome to Rootschat,
Just a quick observation;
Quote;
"A William born in 1722, Married to a Sarah (no last name) has been connected to my family as the father of Joel born 1785 died 1848."

William would be 63 when Joel was born, not impossible but I think unlikely,
So may be a missing generation there.

Trish :)

Backing up a bit;

A Tree has Joel and Family in Canada before 1841 English Census. Is this correct?

MARRIAGE;
24 Nov 1805, St Paul,Tadley, Hampshire
Joel WICKENS of Brimpton  to Dinah BARLOW

BAPTISMS;
All Saints, Monk Sherborne, Hampshire
WILLIAM, 16 Oct 1808
MARK, 11 March 1811
STEPHEN, 13 Oct 1812
STEPHEN, 25 July 1813
SARAH, 27 Nov 1814
ELIZA, 3 Nov 1816
JANE, 4 July 1819
ELIZABETH, 21 June 1821
THOMAS. 27 July 1823
RICHARD, 17 Sept 1826
MARY, 20 Nov 1831
Parents;
All have Father as JOEL, Mothers name is down as either SARAH or DINAH
(was she known as both?)
Fathers Occp Labourer on some Baptisms

So Joel was from Brimpton according to the Marriage Record. It does not mean he was born there.

F/S has a JOEL Wickens Christened to JOEL/DINAH 25 Dec 1806, Aldermaston, Berkshire

JOEL Jnr appears to have Married Amelia QUILLA, 12 Oct 1833  same Church as is Siblings were Baptised.
Witnesses, Mark Wickens (Brother I would think) and Sarah Doe.

I did note this Marriage which is worth keeping in mind;

MARRIAGE;
10 Oct 1768, St Mary, Kingsclere, Hampshire
William WIGGINS to Sarah CHAPPLE
Bachelor and Spinster

All info on FreeREG except Christening of Joel Jnr.

Logging out now. others may be able to help.

Trish :)
