« on: Saturday 28 October 06 13:22 BST (UK) »
can anyone look at the scottish census for me to see what happened to the saunders familly after 1841?  You can find them by David Saunders born 1827 orkney & shetland, Kirkwall.

thanks

You can look them up online at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - it's an excellent site

good afternoon, going by your post i think you are interested in the parents of your david.

i cannot find david in the 1851 yet but i did find him in the 1861 census.

1861 census: shore street, kirkwall

david...head...age 63...retired seaman...born scapa
elizabeth...wife...age 59...born sanday, orkney
robert hay...grandson...age 12...born kirkwall

1841 census: catherine place, kirkwall

bettsy...wife...age 35...seaman's wife
david...age 14
jean...age 12
robina...age 6
archibald...age 3

on the 1851 census there are only 1 saunder's family living in kirkwall, head of the family is daniel.

in 1861 census there are 3 saunder's families, one of which i gave you earlier, head of household peter(son of daniel) and george

will now search for the family in the 1851 censuses.

did notice that your david was at sea in the 1861 census, like father like son eh!!

rootschat is more a historian lookup, regarding genealogy and family trees as such, when it comes to living relatives i suggest your go to www.192.com and punch in the details.

you only need to punch in the surname and kirkwall.

keep us up to date with your find but do not put living relatives names on the thread, please.

is saunders the only surname in scotland you are researching?
