Just to add another angle; Have you considered looking for missspelllins  ;) of Runnalls. I have a Runnalls appearing in my Reynolds line. It and several other miss spelled versions seem to be quite common.
Just a thought.
Happy hunting

I hope you have resolved James Downing RUNNALLS...
His birth was registered as KITTO. 1863.
His mother Elizabeth died, aged 18 Dec qtr 1863.
He is raised by extended family who always record him as being RUNNALLS.
On marriage, in London, he gives his father as James RUNNALLS, pork butcher.
The DOWNING comes from his gt grandmother, Elizabeth DOWNING.

So, was he truly a RUNNALLS?  His family believed so.  Any DNA projects out there looking at RUNNALLS?

Friend of a descendant of James!!
