Quaker religion - Records
« on: Friday 12 November 04 22:33 GMT (UK) »
Hi, has anyone had to research Quakers in their family in the 1800s ? I've got one that married into my family and I haven't a clue how to go about researching Quaker records to establish BMDs etc.
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated!!
Cheers

I have no known connections to any Quaker families but I have noticed various Quaker records at Essex Record Office (the one I'm most familiar with). I have just searched 'Quakers' on their website and got 20 pages of hits which suggest that 'Quaker' records are pretty well catalogued in Essex

I know that my local family history society has quaker records on Cd rom format. It may be worth your while contacting your local society to see what publications they hold

Thanks for your reply Clincher.  The records office I'm looking at is in Durham....at the other end of the country to me (typical!). They do hold some Quaker records, but I feel like I should know more about them before I ask/pay someone to look things up for me. (Trying to avoid wasting my hard earned pennies!!)
Thanks again!

The Durham FHS site is: http://www.ndfhs.org.uk/
Perhaps you could email them to ask about quakers records
