Margaret Grant & Kenneth Cameron
« on: Sunday 12 November 06 08:56 GMT (UK) »
Looking for information on Margaret.

She was married to Finlay Cameron and lived in  Killearnan Parish at Drynie Park

She was born abt. 1778, at Contin.

I have her on the '51 census, but she is deceased by '61.

I couldn't find record of this on ScotsPeople, so she must have died pre '55

As her eldest daughter was Ann, I suspect it may be the name of Margaret's mother.

Regards,

Jamjar

Hi Jamjar

unless there are two couples with the same names/area, you may have Margaret birth year down wrong. A Margaret Grant and Finlay Cameron were having children in Contin around 1812-19:

1. MARY CAMERON  Birth: 27 MAY 1819 Contin, Ross And Cromarty, Scotland
2. JEAN CAMERON Birth: 03 DEC 1821 Contin, Ross And Cromarty, Scotland
3. JOHN CAMERON Christening: 06 OCT 1814 Contin, Ross And Cromarty, Scotland

Regards.

Hi Jamjar

I agree  with Monica. I checked Kilearnan and the only Ann I could find was bpt. 3 May 1841, parents: Kenneth Cameron and Ann Mackenzie. There are no Cameron bpts in Kilearnan to Margaret Grant and Finlay Cameron.

Morning Gadget!

Given the names, there could be a number of couples with the same names. I can see one family in Contin in the 1841 Census, and then another in Killearnan, living at Park Of Drynie, all showing as born in R & C:

Finlay CAMERON, 65, Agri. Lab
Margaret, 60
Margaret, 20
Mary, 13

Then again, there is an unmarried 20 year old Finlay in Contin living with his family (mother Anne) which would fit better with a birth year of c. 1814 for your Margaret, if they married after 1841.

Morning Monica  :)

I still don't see any bpts for this pair - except the ones that you mentioned. It might well be RC or missing records ???

PS The one you show - is it 13 or a badly written 15 for Mary?

Mary in Killearn is showing a birth year of 1828 on the index, the original might show different.

Is it Kilearnan or Kilearn, Monica?

I'm getting confused - jamjar says Kilearnan  ???

Gadget

PS  Nothing on a Mary Cameron in either Kilearn or Kilearnan before 1834 on my index  ???

It must be either Kilearnan or Kiltearn if it's R & C

Sorry, fingers getting carried away, the Finlay and Margaret family in 1841 with Margaret and Mary are in Killearnan.

Howdy do,

My, you are all very busy.

Just did the maths and it put Margaret at birth abt. 1778!

Ooops, it was their daughter Margaret, born in 1814. Sorry. :o

On the 1851census Finlay is 80 and Margaret is 73 and still at Drynie Park

Daughter Ann is there with my illegit rellie, her son John Morrison

On the 1861 census Finlay is 89.

All the children were born in Contin. Ann was born in 1811
