Hi Monica,

I am going to see if I can find death details for Kenneth, between '41 and '51. I can't get on to Scotspeep at the moment. The site was working earlier.

Wonder when Christy, Finlays mother died.

Thanks for the information.

Well, no luck there.

There is a Kenneth 100, but no way of knowing if it is my Kenneth. One has to order the information.

I couldn't view the '51, '61 census. All have to be ordered.

Does anyone have the census to check if Christian and Mary are still there. Also had a thought, could this Christian on the '41 census be a male?

Hi Jamjar!

I realise this is a very old thread but I notice you are still active on the forums so hopefully you will see this reply.

Going to throw a bit of a spanner in the works here.

Finlay Cameron and Margaret Grant are my 4x great-grandparents.

They had another son. Duncan Cameron born abt. 1807 in Ross and Cromarty. I have Duncan's death certificate. He died 1882 in St Vigeans, Angus, Scotland. Parents named as Finlay Cameron a Pendicler in Inverness and Margaret Grant.

Duncan married a Flora Stewart, 7th Feb 1834 in Killearnan, Ross and Cromarty. Duncan and Flora had a number of children; Finlay, Flora, Margaret, John, Jane and Catherine. Duncan and Flora moved around scotland A LOT! They have been noted as living at Dingwall, Burntisland Fife, Arbroath Angus and Banffshire. I have a feeling they were displaced due to the clearances. Perhaps this also happened to Finlay and Margaret?

I think there a number of Finlay and Margaret's children missing from parish records as Duncan's isn't anywhere to be found. The family is probably much larger than we think.

Quite frustrating, I guess the records are missing or they didn't register the births.

Thanks!

Jill.

Greetings from Australia, Jill.

I don't have my research to hand, but I do recall a reference to Duncan and Flora. I will add their children to my tree.

Do you have any information on the parents of Finlay and Margaret Grant.

Hi Jamjar

I don't presently have anything more on Finlay and Margaret. Duncan was a new discovery for me as I'd only recently begun searching that side of the family, the only thing I have about Finlay and Margaret are their names on Duncan's death certificate, and Finlay's profession there also.

Here is the info I have on Duncan and Flora's children presently -

Finlay born 1834 Killearnan
Flora born 13th Jan 1837 Inverness-shire  (my direct ancestor)
Elizabeth born 1845 Burntisland, Fife
Margaret born 1846 Burntisland, Fife
Mary born 1848 Burntisland, Fife
John born 1851 Burntisland, Fife
Jane born 1854 Aberdeen
Catherine born 27 Sept 1856 Keith, Banffshire

They did move around quite a lot. Note that most of the birth dates are approximate as they were taken from various census.

This list of children may not be complete yet as most of these I have found yesterday and today.

I realise you asked this over a decade ago but thought I'd include the info in this thread anyway in case anyone else is looking for info on this family.

Did you ever find out if they are connected to Finlay by any chance?

I've found Christian and Mary at the same address in 1851. Available from FreeCen.

Address: Balblair

The name 'Christian' is mostly female in those days. Another form of Christine/Christina et al.

Information sent to you, Jill.

No, I've not made a connection to anyone likely to be Finlay's folks.
