Alfred Winter 1898-1940 Flying Corp photo
« on: Tuesday 14 November 06 13:09 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone,

It's my first posting on here so I hope I manage to get it right & actually attach the pic!!

This is my G x2 Uncle Alf, looking very proud in his flying corps uniform.  He flew byplanes over Eygpt in WW1.  Unfortunately he died after his house was bombed in WW2 & I never got to meet him.  I was given this pic as a child & have always loved it.

If anyone is able to give Alf a clean up, I'd be very grateful.  :)

Many thanks,

Debbie

Wow!  Thank you so much.  I envy your patience... & skill.  I've tried so many times with different pictures but I always manage to make them look worse than before I messed with them!!

I very much appreciate the time you've spared for me.  :D

Heres my colour version, although I must admit I am not quite sure that I am right with the colour of his shirt, if you know the colour of the shirt tell me and I will change it for you !

Good morning Carolyn,

What a lovely sight first thing in the morning...Uncle Alf in glorious colour!!!  I must admit I was hoping someone might add a touch of colour but I didn't like to ask.  I have a letter somewhere from the RAF museum who described his uniform for me.  I'll dig it out & see what they say about the colour & get back to you.

Many thanks Carolyn!

I was going to say Hi Carolyn...then I saw it was Mike this time...nearly caught me!!  I think I prefer this one, half sepia, half colour.  I love it, thank you for your time & trouble, it's very much appreciated.

I appear to have 'filed' the RAF letter somewhere safe.  I do remember they said it was the last dress uniform & he was either a cadet or in training & it was the last Royal Flying Corps uniform before the RAF came into being.  I remember they said the band around the cap was white, which donated his status of trainee, but I'm not even sure now if they did mention the colour.

Once again, thanks to you all for restoring Uncle Alf.  He will be framed & 'hung' in my ancestors gallery in the front room!!  (it's not really a gallery but the wall is being slightly taken over!!)

Best wishes,

Debbie
