I think that makes the census a good possibility Jenn - Hannah and a number of her siblings are born in London (Always assuming Hannah is the mother of interest).

this is the url to the Qld BDM,  you cannot order online but can download and print out an application form.  It isn't really clear if you have to supply identification for really early stuff.  I recently got my grandparents marriage (1926) and I thought I better play safe and had a photocopy of my license signed by a JP and sent with it.

It is not unusual for a child who lost mum whilst young not to know her  mother's name.   As to Violet herself, who knows how she ended up with the names different from the birth reg! one of the later children with the new wife had the name Edith among their names.  It could be that she was always called Violet.  And what a swag of memorable names  ;D

Christine.

Hello  there

Irvin Sidney  Crow  was  born  about  1865  in

Theddlethorpe, Lincolnshire parents Robert  (coal agent) born around 1830  in Theddlethorpe  Elizabeth around 1831 in theddlethorpe

(hence  the  middle  name  of one of  the  children  and  one or two of  the crows  in  the bundaberg cemetery  are from  theddlethorpe too)

He is  with  the family  in 1871

on the  1881  census  he  may  be the sidney crow  shown  with the same birth details as an apprentice carpenter

You have to supply identification for ANY information from Qld registry - you also have to provide your relationship to the person - they will not accept NONE - so I usually put 5th cousin twice removed. Until last year you could buy the early certificates from the archives - cheaper, simple and delivered in 48 hours - now it is complicated more expensive and takes AT LEAST 10 days

I have never supplied ID for any certificates from Qld bmd registry. I do fill in the section where it asks for your relationship though.

WOW!
Sorry I didn't get on here and thank you all earlier! While you guys were working hard I was asleep over here in Scotland. I have just read through the info and it is all very interesting - and a little hard to get my head around!
Thank you so much there is so much about the family I didn't know about! I will have to tell my grandpa what his grandmother's actual name was!

If you have any luck with the Casey's let me know - I think my aunty has tried to trace them before but couldn't trace them outside of Australia! EEK!

Thanks again!

Hello there

from  the
Queensland Pioneers Index 1829 - 1889

Catherine Donoughoe/Donohoe  and Thomas William Casey
had  the following children siblings to John Rignay Casey

Thomas Charles William 2/1/1883    reference 1883/002981

Clifford                           12/12/1885 reference 1886/003397

Charles Vincent              8/11/1887   reference 1887/004099

Alice                               15/08/1889 reference 1889/004701

as my index only go to 1889  there may be  more siblings  and  the death  of  Catherine  or Thomas William  may reveal  their parentage a  few  of  the  others  have  \the next  set  of  index's

regarding ordering  certificate
last  year  I faxed away  my application for a  marriage from 1888 not proof required  and got  it back  that week bloody marvelous service it was
this  year  in september  went into  town  with  a  friend  for  her to  order a couple of certificates from the 1800's  she  had  to  show  identity  and they took 4 weeks to get from Brisbane to Townsville  so  the  system  has changed
oh and  they  were dearer

regards Jenn

It was October last year that they stopped the archives from issuing certificates Jen. I posted a request to the archives Monday & had the certificate in the mail box Wednesday - they didn't even wait for the cheque to clear!

I went into the city a couple of weeks ago - queued for 45 minutes - had to show id and be related to a Rootschatter's GG Aunt (the certificate was not for myself) - service is NOT part of their vocab - received the certificate about 2 weeks later
