This is actually the only registration for a Thomas Benjamin Jones in the Swansea registration that shows up on FreeBmd between 1885 and 1895 so might well be worth investigating even if only to eliminate this birth.
There are also 2 death registrations for a James Jones in Swansea district that would fit this James - june qtr 1909 age 44 Swansea vol 11a pg 511 and june qtr 1913 age 48 Swansea vol 11a pg 1001, but it's a common name.
1901 Cwm Road, Godre'rgraig RG13/5064 folio 133 pg 4
Thomas Jones head mar 41 tinman in tinplate works
Janet wife 42
Blodwen dau 15 cold rolls(?) tin works
Elizabeth dau 11
Benjamin son 9
James son 5
Johnny son 2
all born Ystalyfera
The problem with this search is that not all the details fit any one family. There's not just one tin plate works in the Swansea area at the time, there were dozens. If I remember correctly from school, about three quarters of the tinplate in the UK was manufactured in the area, so there are many Joneses working in tinplate.
I wondered whether you could get someone to check the parish registers of the church where Thomas Benjamin married just in case the wrong first name was recorded on the marriage certificate for the father.
