It is possible for you to search the NSW deaths to 1975 online at http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au    Click on Family History and then search indexes.  I had a quick look but was unable to find a death reg for Frederick L Rowland.

Cheers

Hi Cando,  Thanks for the web site, I didn't know about it, I have searched for Fred, Frederick, Rowland, Rowlands.  No luck with any of these names.  He may possibly have died after 1975 or died elsewhere other than NSW.  I am still scratching my head over where to go next.  Fun looking but frustrating not having an answer yet after 12 years of searching.

Hi,
You would probably be aware that
DAVID ROWLAND died 1903 @62
JANE ROWLAND  died 1928 @ 82  and
DAVID DAVIES ROWLAND died 1885 @ 14
are buried at Clunes Cemetery.
Wonder if DAVID DAVIES is a brother of FREDERICK.
Sue

Hi Sue,  Thanks, yes David is Frederick's brother and David & Jane are the parents and also are my great great grandparents.  That is correct they are buried in Clunes.

Hi

Have you looked at his war service record on the national archives site?  I think Sue's suggestion should be followed up.

www.naa.gov.au/The_collection/recordsearch.html

Did he study to be a vet?  Perhaps you could follow this up as well.

Can't think of any other avenues at the moment ;)

Cheers

He was also given a month's study at Edinburgh[ UK] uni
1/7/1919 to 30/7/1919 in order to study 'animal husbandry'

So he did have time for things outside military life!!

Hi again,
Just wondered whether it is worth noting in the NAA file of his service history we see the following information.

On 10/8/1919, Federick was granted 6 months 'study leave' from the army to go to America and study 'agriculture'  The end of this 6 month period brought the end of the war and the next entry sees them infoming the family that he has left San Francisco on Sept 21, 1920.
We see that he duly arrived home in Aust.
My thoughts...
Did he perhaps meet someone during that time in America and returned there .
As we can't immediately see a marriage in Aust or a death, it seems like a possibility.
Maybe you could look for him in US too.
Sue
Hi Sue,  Thanks, I only found this information myself last month, (and I have been trying to locate him for 12 years)  I am positive he came back to Australia as he was briefly living with his mother and sister Margaret in a house in Clunes.   That is certainly an interesting thought that he may have returned to US.  I've got a cousin who lives in US so maybe she maybe able to follow up that lead.  It is becoming a process of elimination to try to find what happened to Frederick.   Attached is a photo of Fred in his uniform.

Hi,
I have had a lot of succes posting on the US immigration boards of Roots Chat.
The US records are good and people seem very willing to help.
Worth thinking about anyway.

hello  there greenemma

well he  is a dashing  figure  you say  he is  uniform  but where from? and  do  you  know when  the photo was  taken

see by  the war  records  he was 6'4"  but he  had  no  teeth  but dentures ;D
which  he gave away  to another soldier
and that  he was still at  his  mothers  in 1924 presumably  cause  that where his medals  were sent

it  is  possible  that he lived to a  ripe old age

have  you tried  the rookwood cemetery  index  at all?

regards jenn

Had a quick look at the 1930 US Census on ancestry.com - only one Frederick L Rowland b. abt 1883  New Haven CT.

I thought that if Frederick had studied to be a Vet in Aus, you may be able to chase up academic records, registration boards,  etc.

Cheers
