Hello Andrea

Would it be possible to tell us a little more about Ralph Channer. For example, how you have got back as far as him, roughly what area he settled in or where his descendants lived and what their names were.

Have you tried the National Library of Walses site? Their online archive search engine is here:

http://www.llgc.org.uk:81/

Best wishes

PS I've just noticed that you put up this thread a while ago:

Have you found any information on grandson Matthew's parents?

I presume you've seen this link to a Great Bromley, Essex Parish Magazine:

http://www.greatbromley.org.uk/parish_magazine/july_2006.pdf

Here it mentions the will of a Ralph Channer in 1570.

So far, I've found nothing in the Welsh Archives.

Hi Andrea,
I was really interested in reading about your CHANNER tree.

We have a Mary Ann CHANNER born in South Africa. We know nothing of her parents as yet but we have some info on an Arthur CHANNER (born 1852 Allahabad) who we believe may be related to her and it states that Arthur's parents were
George Girdwood CHANNER & Susan KENDALL.
Do you by any chance have any info on a possible link between Mary Ann & Arthur CHANNER as we aren't au fait with the South African research as yet although we are working on it!

Thanks and Best Wishes

Hi Helen

Welcome to Rootschat!

I hope you find a link with these CHANNERs, but you could also try posting for Mary Ann's parents on our South Africa board - there are folk there with access to resources and advice that might help you.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,291.0.html

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Hi
in the 1940`s
Vivien Hood Channer turned up at my Gt  Grandfathers farm
Saying his family used to live here

( he did not know at first they were channers )

He was suprised that the daughter that opened the door was a spitting image of his sister .
So said he would research a family tree and come back.
he did 6 months later With a large printed  tree .
He ( or researchers) looked at wills and Military Records
and a DETAIL from his Grandfathers ( george nicolas channer , who was a son of George girwood channer)   family bible

Giving the details i mentioned earlier and details of family crest
.
he was unable to link my part of the family
I Have since confirmed most of this tree and added in extra members
and added in my gt grandfather.

i know Vivien had a daughter , but have no idea if the bibles still about .

Please see my reply on the South Africa board - there were a number of references on the Rootsweb mailing list for baptisms of Channers in Port Elizabeth. It appears that Mary Ann was the daughter of Emma and John. Unfortunately there is not a record of a death notice for Emma who died on the 30 April 1903 - this may be because her death is recorded in the Cape and so death notices often have to be manually looked up on the microfilms. A death notice would usually have a will attached or information about her family.
