Minnie Alice Gates - can you help me find her birth please?

Hi all!

Minnie Alice Gates was my husband's Grandmother. Try as I can, I have been unable to find details of her birth. I have marriage and death details for her and I have found births for siblings. But our dear Minnie Alice.....

Minnie Alice's parents were Emma Jane GATES, nee BROWN, and Henry GATES Her family lived in Western NSW. Many of her siblings were born in Wilcannia. Minnie died in 1913. Minnie was aged about 28 when she died.

Hoping someone can locate her birth details.

not  in Qld  or Victoria  sorry

Thanks for looking Jenn.

Her parents married in 1877. Both were born in SA. Makes me wonder now if they might have been in SA at the time of her birth.  Seems improbable. It was a long way to travel.

Hi Jenn!

I have been so focussed on NSW because Wilcannia and surrounds was all we ever heard about . I have since learnt, much to our surprise, that the Gates and Brown families were all from SA. I wonder about the possibility of Minnie being born en route. Maybe she was slightly older than I was lead to believe.

Would you mind checking please to see if her parents were married in SA? Emma's parents were Thomas and Helen (Ellen) Brown and Harry's were Elizabeth Urne and Henry Gates.

but  I cannot find  any children  to  this couple born  in south australia.

Jenn...that's interesting.

I have Henry jnr's death certificate in front of me and Henry Gates and Elizabeth Urne are noted as his parents. His birthplace is given as Yankallia, SA, which I assume should be Yankallila. Also noted is that he lived in South Australia for 20 years, NSW for 50 years and Victoria for 10. He died in Feb 1932 in Mildura, so that would mean he was born circa 1852. Henry was 80 when he died.

He married Emma when he was 25 in Wilcannia, NSW. That's where I got the 1877 for their marriage year from. Minnie was their 4th child. It seems strange the other births were recorded and not hers.
