Havard surname research
« on: Monday 27 November 06 20:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have just registered & would like to post my interest in research on the Havard family. I now know there are several different known families that may have linked up in the dim & distant past.

My grandfather was William Havard who lived in Ystradgynlais with his wife & 3 young children until his early death in 1934, aged just 32, in a mining accident at Abercrave colliery. His parents were George & Elizabeth Havard who moved across the Brecons to Ystradgynlais following a few years spent in Patagonia at the turn of the twentieth century. George lived at the family farm, Penwern, Boughrood, until he fell out with his father. They had several children, including (I think) my grendfather whilst they were in Patagonia. I would like to know how to go about finding out the details of both my grandfather's birth, & when & how his parents emigrated; this is still a big hole in this part of my family research. I have found details of births & christenings of his brother & sisters born there, but  not him. The family were living there at the time of the 1901 census.

Also, if anyone has or can obtain a picture of the colliery at Abercrave, it would really be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi

Can't help with your Patagonia enquiry unfortunately but am interested to know how far back you have taken the Havard line?

I have recently found my 3x Grandfather - Thomas Havard in my family tree. He is on the 1851 Census (HO 107/2445)for Monmouth, a coach builder born in Camarthen c1805. Any connection?

Hi Fisherman,

Thanks for the photo of Abercrave; it is very much appreciated. Please accept my apologies for the delay in replying, but I've only recently returned to the family tree research, including looking at replies to past posts.

Hi Dragonfly,

I have gone back to 3xggrandfather, Jonas Havard, born 1798 in Glascwm. As far as I know there is no connection, but I know from another relative that there are 2 known different Havard families.

Hi Lisa,

Thank you for getting in touch. With so many children of our grandparents generation, there are quite a number of children of our parents generation and subsequently ours. I am already in touch with a number of our other second cousins, but it is exciting to find one from a "new" branch. I am also in touch with several more distant cousins, descended from other members of George's father's family.

As soon as you are able to, please send me a private message via this forum. I would love to see (and exchange) any information you have, as well as fill you in on my own branch.

Best wishes

mrsd
