1851 Census - Monifieth
« on: Thursday 07 December 06 15:52 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
On the transcript for the 1851 Census for West Marsh, Monifieth there is a James Robertson whose place of birth is stated as "Edintre, Reid Pothia".  I assume that this is a misreading.  Does anyone have access to the original page and can decipher what it is supposed to be?
Many thanks for any help.
Regards,
Brian

Thanks for your reply.  He is 44 and living with wife Rebecca, age 40, son John, age 16 and mother-in-law Agnes McFarlane, age 74.

After all that, there's no image on Scotlands People for me to look at. I'll have a think about Edintre though :-\

Hi Brian and Gadget

I wonder if birth place is supposed to be Edinbugh, Mid lothian? There's an entry in the 1861 Census:

James Robertson    46, b. Edinburgh, occup. Currier ( ???)
Robeca Robertson    46, b. Glasgow
Elizabeth Robertson    20, b. Glasgow
James Robertson    10, b. Ireland
John Robertson    6, b. Glasgow

Address: 16 Kirk Street, Calton, Glasgow

Regards.

Hi Gadget and Monica,
Many thanks for your replies.  I wondered if Edintre could be Edinburgh, and also wondered if Pothia was Perthshire.  I could not find him in the 1861 Census.  Not sure about the Glasgow James Robertson as the age is wrong, his occupation in 1851 was a tinsmith, and Rebecca was born in Dundee.
Thanks again - kind of you to take the trouble.
Regards,
Brian
