.....also, did you get them in 1871. One or both of them might have died 1851-71. I've not found Rebecca, aged 48-52  on the 1861.

There are a few James Robertsons bpt. showing on the IGI for Edinburgh, Midlothian around the time - 1807 onwards to 1811.

I've just checked Rebecca's death cert. She is listed as wife of a tinsmith. The informant was James Robertson, tinsmith (not present). She died at Dundee Royal Infirmary of fever. Father : James Robb, dec. and Agnes maiden surname McFarlane, dec.

Hi Gadget and Monica,
Thank you for the further info, especially Rebecca's death info.  I already had her 1809 birth record to James Robb and Agnes McFarlane in Dundee, James and Agnes marrying there in 1800.
So I had a little bit of info on Rebecca's parents, but nothing on James Robertson's because I do not know where he was born - Edintre Reid Pothia!!!  I could not find him in the 1861 Census.  Haven't checked 1871.
Regards,
Brian

One more go before I go to bed to find James Robertson in 1861...the best fit assuming he is still in Dundee following Rebecca's death there in 1859 is one possibility for a James, living alone:

James Robertson, Lin (tin?) smith, 47, living at No 8 Blanshall St, Dundee Second District, birth place.....................Edabo, Canonbiesh  :( :( :(

I give up on the index Brian, think you might need to look at the original image on Scotlands People to get his birth place in English.

Regards.

Edabo, Canonbiesh

Apart from Edinburgh, the only other that I can come up with is Edzell :

Quote
from 1845 until 1891 partly in Kincardineshire and partly in Angus. In 1891 the Boundary Commissioners placed the parish wholly in Angus.

alternatively, could it be a small place in the parish of Canonbie, DFS

 :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

I can't find a death for him so far.

Brian  :)

Because Monica and I hate to let things defeat us, I've downloaded the 1861 census images that she found the reference to.

Here it is. It looks to me like Edinbroshire, Edinbro, which I assume is Edinburgh but he didn't know the county  :-\
