Cuba!!??
« on: Sunday 10 December 06 18:29 GMT (UK) »
My husband had a relative that was born in Cuba, but i have seen a few more mentioned in Ancestry but i cannot access it until i get joined up. I looked in familysearch.org, but i only find 2 mentioned in 1770s and dont know how they are related. The relative i found that was born there came back to england and later became an emmigration agent in Liverpool in late 1800s early 1900's.
I noticed that some of them in the ancstry info were on passenger lists going to america from cuba.
Thanks for any info you can get me :-*

Hi...hmmm good idea  8)
Well i have Gregorio Mildenstein born matanzas cuba...and his brother i have found is john henry mildenstein...or johann hienrich mildenstein, i dont know where he was born or when. His parents i believe were Jacob Mildenstein. occ. seafarer  b. 7 oct 1780 Burg Fehmarn Germany. his wife was Theresa Werner, dont have any other details.
Jacobs parents were Hans Mildenstein and Anna gertrud Haltermann. No other details.
I have found some Mildensteins on Ancestry on the passenger lists that are free to view at the moment, but i cannot see where they come into this family.
Gregorio settled in Liverpool and was an emigration agent. I have all of his family details up until his death.
Thanks anyone for anything  :-*

From Googling

Women's liberation in Cuba
By Nancy Iglesias Mildenstein

The author is a leader of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC). The FMC was formed in 1960, following the Cuban Revolution, to organise women and campaign for their rights. It has been involved in many campaigns that have improved the status of women in Cuba, including the literacy campaign in the early years of the revolution, and has played an important part in raising women from 19.2% of the workforce in 1953 to 43.2% in 1999.

Abridged from a talk given at the University of Technology, Sydney on July 26, 2000.
