'ENGLISH' family
« on: Friday 15 December 06 22:38 GMT (UK) »
Seeking other family historians researching one specific branch of the 'English' family from Northumberland. I have distant links to those who came from Woodhorn/Bothal/Chirton (C18th and C19th) and 'English' forenames include: George, George Stephenson, Thomas, Catherine, Mary, Jane, Robert & Isabella.

Also seeking information regarding Isabella Pattison who married George Stephenson English in 1899.

Any help, no matter how small, will be appreciated.  :)

Hi

According to the 1901 census, Isabella was b 1871 in Middlesborough Yorkshire so you should be able to find her on the 1881 census at www.familysearch.org

Thank you for your suggestion. Whilst I think it'll be easy to trace her parents and family details from census returns, I'm hoping there might be descendants alive somewhere.
That would add a more personal touch to the research.
Happy hunting with your own research!  :)

Hi Fliss

Ann Hall and William Watson, married in 1876.  She was previously married to George English who had died in 1871.  I have additional English details taken  from a Family Bible if you think they might help you

Ann was the daughter of Joseph Hall who farmed at Linefield House, Woodhorn.  Ann and Wiiliam were my great grandparents.

Would you like further details?

Regards

Hello! Thank you for your reply. At the moment I don't know how / if Ann Hall fits into my particular English tree. Would you please tell me a little more about the George English she married. For example, who were his siblings and his parents?
Looking forward to your reply.
Regards, Fliss

The following information is taken from the family bible. Details at the front show both her (Ann Hall) marrying George English, their children and deaths and then her marriage as my great grandparents and their children.

Birth dale for George English is shown as 4th February 1840. No marriage date is given but Ann English, his wife, was born 3rd January 1838.

Three children are listed:-
William English     6th June 1865
Joseph Hall English   12th July 1866
Thomas English      26th November 1868

The following three deaths are shown:
George English         25th August 1871    aged 31 years
Thos. English           11th June 1873    aged 4 years
William English     died in Brisbane, Australia    3rd July 1890 aged 25 years.

There is a memorial in Woodhorn churhyard showing the three deaths above plus that for Ann Watson. After George died his wife married William Watson. However, for whatever reason, she is buried or at least with her first husband.

Could these be yours?

There are also several memorials in Woodhorn churhyard for Englsh family(ies).  I see North Seaton Moor House mentioned a couple of times.

I think somewhere along the line they may be related but I can't see where!

On the top of 'my' tree I have Thomas English (b 1798 Bothal) married to Jane Armstrong.
They had:
~George b1825 Bothal/Sheepwash
Thomas b 1826 b Bothal
Jane b1828
Thomas b1830
Mary b1836.

The ~ George b 1825 married Catherine Proctor/Brocton and in 1861 & 1871 was listed as living in Woodhorn.

I'll keep the details you sent and maybe someday I'll find a common link!
Many thanks, Fliss
