London marriages up to 1921 can usually be accessed on ancestry - the actual marriage certificate with details that aren't in the index - but this one is missing, which is why I wondered if it was a Jewish marriage.

Solomon's age and occupation would help to identify him.

Interesting Solomon was a waiter and John was a waiter.

First child having Nelson as a middle name can't be a coincidence.

It does point to them being the same person to me but perhaps we could find out more - any death info for any of them that might help  :-\

I wonder if they had more children post 1911.  There are some Levy/Stone children born in Bethnel G - Whitechapel - Mile End including twin girls.

After the 1911 the next time I have found Anniss Levy is an electoral register in 1929. She and her children are all called Levy and there is no sign of John Nelson.

The John Nelson I was looking for died in 1926, and I was trying to establish whether he was the same John Nelson who had been living with Anniss. If he was the same person, he must have left Anniss by 1917.

The Levy boy born after 1911 didn't have Nelson as a middle name. Doesn't prove anything of course, but there was another couple in the area called Levy with a maiden name Stone.

Think you might have got it right, Milliepede.

Found a marriage in 1864 of Lewis Levy & Grace Nelson, so checked 1871 and found them living in Soho with son Solomon, born 1867 in St James. In the 1901 John Nelson gives place of birth as St James, also born about 1867.

Possibility that Solomon and John were one and the same, and for some reason he took his mother's surname.

Just have to prove it now!

Ah good find that makes sense doesn't it with the Lewis/Louis name.  Plus son Solomon.

Finding a death or probate might clinch it if by good fortune it gives both names!  Doubt it though as they all seem to use Levy despite what is on the census.

Is there a baptism for Solomon 1867?  It might list him as Solomon John Nelson Levy and bingo  ;)
