Marriage in Bathgate
« on: Wednesday 27 December 06 12:07 GMT (UK) »
I have a date of marriage 16 8 1886, Bathgate recorded on:
Birth cert. No.165
Margaret McILVANIE.
b.1888, Jul 10th, 6 South Bridge St. Bathgate, WLN.
f.Bernard McILVANIE, coal miner.
m.Elizabeth McILVANIE, ms MONAGHAN.
marr.1886 August 28th, Bathgate.
sign.Bernard McILVANIE, father.
reg.1888, July 30th, Bathgate, Linlithgow, WLN.

I have been unable to find a marriage certificate on SP.
Also unable to find either birth or death cert. of mother Elizabeth Monaghan McILVANEY.
Is there anyone out there researching the McILVANEY & MONAGHAN families who could help?

Hi Wildgoose

Like you, I cannot see any marriage entry on SP.

Bernard at least looks to have been born in Antrim, Ireland. There is a likely entry for him and his family in Bathgate in 1881:

Hugh, 50, labourer, b. Antrim, Ireland
Margaret , 52, Antrim, Ireland
Bernard, 25, labourer, b. Antrim, Ireland
James, 20, coal miner, b. Airdrie, Lanark
John, 17, coal miner, b. Bathgate
Hugh, 14, glassworker's assistant, b. Bathgate

Address: 42 North Bridge St, Bathgate

From the children's IGI entries for births in Scotland, the mother's name is showing as Gribben/Grubbin.

Regards.

Wildgoose

Have you found the family in the 1891 Census? Can't easily see an entry for Bernard on the census with lots of ** for the surname.

I think mother's maiden name is CONVEY. IGI entries for children seem to match that mother. Father Patrick comes up as either Patrick or Peter (variant).

Still no sign of Elizabeth....I wonder if she was actually born in Ireland  :-\

:-\ I think the 1861 entry below is the Patrick and Mary from the 1881, with child Owen who shows also in 1881.........but where is Elizabeth?:

Patrick Monaghan 29, lodger, coal miner, lodger, b. Ireland
Mary Monaghan    26, lodger wife, b. Ireland
Owen Monaghan    5 Mo, lodger, b. MacKburn, Linlithgowshire
Betsy Oharro    48, wife, b. Ireland
Mary Oharro    24, b. Ireland
Michael Oharro    63, head, agr. lab. b. Ireland

Address: Cochrane Street, Bathgate, West Lothian

Monica

With Patrick and Mary's marriage in 1852, where are the other children born 1852-60 I wonder. Some early deaths probably, but can't see any sign of Elizabeth in the 1861 index.
