Missing wedding.
« on: Friday 29 December 06 17:04 GMT (UK) »
Hi I'm looking for the marriage of Arthur Harry William Savage to Vivienne ?????.
I have his Australian army service details and when he enlisted in 1942 his next of kin is given as Vivienne Savage, this is not his mother so I assume its his wife, but I cannot find any marriage info.
He enlisted in Canberra ACT and was born in Melbourne VIC.
Any help please.Peter  :)

He enlisted in Canberra, where he was living at the time - so this could have been where the marriage took place.

They appear to be not very user friendly in relation to certificates
http://www.rgo.act.gov.au/bdm1.shtml

An index to deaths 1930-1973 is available (excel)

There is a Maud died 22 Oct 1960  (mother?)but no sign of Vivienne or Arthur Harry William. I assume you have the birth record for your Arthur. His father's WWI record is also online.

If you email/phone  the archives, you can request that the army record be examined. This will allow you to then buy a photocopy or (the method that most of us use) request that the record be digitised and placed online (free). You will then have the full record and it may contain more information on Vivienne. It should specify whether or not she is his wife & if they were married after he joined up, there will be detail of a change of next of kin.

Trish

It may be possible that Vivienne was his sister.  You will find a Vivienne Savage married to Charles Malligan 1946  ref. no.25413 at Ashfield (a Sydney suburb). If you want this certificate you can order it online at bdm.nsw.gov.au
Good luck

Thanks for all the feedback received.
To Diana as his mother and father were still alive when he enlisted I would assume he would have given one of them as next of kin, as Vivienne Savage was given I thought it would be his wife.
Where did you get the info re possible sister.
Regards Peter. :)

I am only suggesting she may have been his sister.  He may have had his reasons for naming a sister rather than a parent as 'next of kin'.  As you had got nowhere looking for a wife named Vivienne, I tried looking for a possible sister and found the Vivienne Savage marriage noted in my previous message. I am sorry I cannot be more definite than that    ---   it was just a suggestion in view of the brick wall you had arrived at. I just felt it was worth considering. Good luck.
