Hi

Does anyone have any details regarding Sir John Egerton of Fathinghoe? He died c1674, and was married to Anne Wynter, daughter of George Wynter of Dyrham Park Gloucestershire.

Hi Newfy

Thank you! Have tried google but dates/information are a bit vague - I need something a bit more concrete if possible.

Thanks anyway

Hi Jayson
Did you find out anything about Sir John Egerton?
I have been researching the family of his father, Sir Rowland.
The first birth of Rowland's children (Arthur) at Farthinghoe was in 1618.
Thomas, John and Elizabeth must have been before this at another location, possibly Cheddleton, Staffs.
There are no records for Cheddleton for that period.
The records for Farthinghoe are on Ancestry but not Familysearch.
I would be very interested to know if you found any birth records for Sir John.
Regards
Paul Egerton

Arthur Collins' "The baronettage of England; ..." Vol 1 lists the children of Sir Rowland as 3 daughters (Sibil, Elizabeth, Mary) and 6 sons (Thomas, John, Arthur, Philip, Rowland and Charles) but no mention of dates/places of birth.

Casting around on line there's an entry on Freereg (transcription) that records the baptism of a Rond Egerton, 14 Dec 1619, Audley, Staffs. FindMyPast has the image (transcription = Rondus, father's given name Radi, no surname, date 14 dec 1619). As luck would have it the image is not as clear as one would wish.

Hi Paul

I seem to have reached an impasse as far as Sir John is concerned I'm afraid.  Having said that, however, I was able to locate the christenings of his various siblings in Cheshire.  I also have his will which is rather interesting.  This can be downloaded from the National Archives.  His wife also left a will.

Sir John's great granddaughter, Elizabeth, married my ancestor James Bayley 1692-1764 and I have a portrait of him but not Elizabeth sadly.

Hi Hanes
Re: "Casting around on line there's an entry on Freereg (transcription) that records the baptism of a Rond Egerton, 14 Dec 1619, Audley, Staffs. Sir Rowland's Daughter Mary was christened at Farthinghoe on 16 Dec 1619 so it is unlikely that the Freereg entry is for one of his children. I believe that Radi is possibly a Ralph and that Rondus is possibly a Randolph - both names used by the Egertons of Betley, Staffordshire.

Thanks anyway
Paul
