Emma Tullett (1856/8 Peckham)
« on: Sunday 07 January 07 10:50 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for Emma Tullett and family born about 1856/8 (according to 1891 / 1901 census returns) in Peckham, London.

In last quarter of 1875 (BMD)she married Arthur Wicks Sutton in Bromley, but I can't find any record of her before that.

Any help finding her much appreciated,

Mark

According to the IGI, Arthur Wicks Sutton married Emma Sullett 9 October 1875 in Sidcup.

Hi both

Thanks for your replies,

Nutty - haven't got marriage certificate yet, as this is a 'new' family line I'm checking out. The Sutton line is one of my main lines and they later marry into the Tullett family which is why I'm interested to find out if Emma is part of the same Tullett line sense?!) May well order it to check that out.

retiringtype,
I wonder if that's a mis-transcription or the right name. on BMD (ancestry) it says Tullett. IN some of the later censuses Tullett has been mistranscribed as Sullett / Suttle!! - I'll try following up a Mary Sullett and see if I can find anything. I'll keep you posted,

Thanks again both,
Mark

Hi again,

Have just checked BMD & censuses (ancestry) and IGI for Sullett and still can't find an Emma that relates back to mine.  According to one census entry her name was Emma S Sutton - so possible that the S was transcribed as first letter of surname instead of the T. Looks like the Marriage cert may be the next step then.

It's possible that Tullett wasn't Emma's birth name . Also looking at the later censuses the birthdate could be slightly later than 1856-58 - possibly 1858-59 ?

Yes re-looking at the censuses possible she was born a little later (1859) but with marriage in 1875 couldn't imagine she was married before, so am thinking that Tullett is most likely her birth name. Am going to order certificate and see what info that gives me (lets hope it's not a case of father unknown!!)

Cheers,
Mark

I was thinking that maybe her mother married a Tullett after Emma was born, and that she took her stepfather's name. Hopefully the certificate will reveal all!
