Is it definitely Cantref? Cartref means home and is a very common housename.  Cantref is hundred and doesn't seem to make much sense as a housename. If you have a look at the Genuki page for Llanfihangel Genau'r-glyn, there's a list of villages within Cyfoeth-y-Brenin and neither Cantref nor Cartref appears there.

Cornwall: Allen, Bevan, Bosisto, Carnpezzack, Donithorn, Huddy, James, Retallack, Russell, Vincent, Yeoman
Cards: Thomas (Llanbadarn Fawr)
Glam: Bowler, Cram, Galloway, James, Thomas, Watkins
Lincs: Coupland, Cram
Mon: Cram, Gwyn, John, Philpot, Smart, Watkins
Pembs: Edwards (St. Dogmael's)
Yorks: Airey, Bowler, Elliott, Hare, Hewitt, Kellett, Kemp, Stephenson, Tebb

Sorry, can't help you there. What you could do is look at the enumerator's description of the area, you might be able to work it out. If you're using Ancestry for Wales, look at the bottom of the main search page, click on Cardiganshire, then on Cyfoeth y Brenin and there's the census itself and the enumerator's view of the district, but on the 1901, the descriptions are in a different place.

In the paragraph underneath About 1901 Wales Census, click on click here, then click on Cardiganshire as above. Never noticed that about the 1901 before - odd!  ???

Sorry, didn't realise you don't have access to 1901. I'll give you what it says in the enumerator's description
RG13/5155 Cyfoeth y Brenin enumeration district 7
The whole of the village of Borth(except nos 1,2,3 4 in the Cambrian Tce, the Borth Railway Station, and Refreshment Room) Carron House Borth, Nos 1,2,3 St Alban's Villas Upper Borth, the whole of the villages of Upper Borth and Gwastad, Pengoitan(?) and Gwastad Farms and Upper Borth School.

The page that has Cartref on it also has Cambridge Place, Britannia Place, London Place, Ocean Place and Florence Place. So either very short roads or big houses divided up. Do you have an map of Borth for the time?  Did find an Osprey House not far away though.  ;D
