Why is it??
« on: Friday 19 November 04 15:13 GMT (UK) »
Why is it every time I get a new vital record in the mail that I have been waiting for, they seem to have a smudge in the writing on the one piece of info that I REALLY wanted?  Murphy's Law.  Then when I figure out what I received, it begs for more research as more questions have been raised.   ;D  Are we ever satisfied????

The easy answer is "No" - that's why we love it so much - including all the disappointments and frustrations!

Dear Nutkin - we have a special smudge decoding team at Rootschat. All you need is a scanner. It is a lot of fun as you get some weird guesses and somewhere the TRUTH.
Southern or Southan [Hereford , Monmouthshire & Glos], Jenkins, Meredith and Morgan [Monmouthshire and Glos.], Murrill, Damary, Damry, Ray, Lawrence [all Middx. & London], Nethway from Kenn or Yatton. Also Riley and Lyons in South Africa and Riley from St. Helena.

If genealogy research was too easy, then none of us would bother doing it ;)

Get out the decoder.  My ancestor is Jessie Kennedy Yuill. Her father's name is William Kennedy. Mother is Annie ??? and that is the name I am trying to uncover.  I am wondering if the person who wrote teh name used a phonetic spelling of a person from Glasgow saying the name.

Your guesses are welcome.  No pressure Fitty!

I think it is Jamerson.

If anyone has an old 1970's typewriter should be able to compare the capital letter J and small m to see if they are similar.

I believe it is Jemerson - an unusual surname but one that really does exist.
Scrap that - I took another look at the magnified image and it is definitely Jamerson. Jean is right.
