I am trying to trace Mary E Moran born 1858 in Longford Ireland, her parents were Thomas Moran born ABT 1816, Ireland and Ellen (possably Greany) born around 1831 in Roscommon Ireland they married before coming to england.

Hello Bunny Girl,

There are three items you require when searching for Irish ancestors.

1. Denomination.
2. Parish
3. Townland.

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Christopher, thanx for your reply. Its over a year since i posted that request for help and your the only person thats got back to me, Irish descendant's are a bit of a headache eh!
Unfortunately the info i have is of our census records so i can't be sure of there accuracy and i am no futher to solving my mystery's than i was a year ago.
There doesn't seem to be any records for the Irish on line that i can find, do you have to go to Ireland to follow this up and if your not sure the info is correct is there any thing that can be done.
I'm ready for admitting defeat
Sharon

Hello Bunny Girl,

The Griffith's Valuation extracts for Co. Longford took place in 1854 and show three listing for the name Thomas Moran.  www.failteromhat.com
