Hoxeth CAREY
« on: Wednesday 17 January 07 10:41 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find the CAREY family who seem to have lived in the Harrow area in the early 1900's. My uncle, Francis POTTER married a Marjorie Maud CAREY in Hoxeth (?) in 1936. He is listed on the Marriage Certificate as a fruiterer and her father is listed as Joseph CAREY a tailor. Beyond that, my attempt to find any reference to the CAREY family have failed. Can anyone help?

Hi Chopendoz,

What was Marjorie's age in 1936?

Sorry, I missed that out. She was born in 1815 and was 21 when married. Francis was 23.

I can see 2 births in 1915:

Sep quarter 1915
Marjorie M Carey
Mother's maiden name Tyrrell
West Derby 8b 504? (not sure about the page number)

or (more likely, I suppose)
June quarter 1915
Marjorie M Carey
Mother's maiden name Martin
Hendon 3a 660

Could it be Roxeth?  There is an area in South Harrow called that.  About 60 years ago my dad lived in Roxeth Grove!

Sorry, it was a typo (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!).
It is Roxeth which, I have discovered is near Harrow.

There is not one Joseph Carey in the Harrow area on the 1901.

Who were the witnesses to their 1936 marriage.

Any clues there as to brothers or sisters names or her address at the time?

Might be able to search the electoral rolls at Harrow Library for you.

All the best

Carol

The witnesses were 'J. Carey' (I assume that this was the father) and a 'R. Darling' (who could be a friend or even a passing stanger). The address of the newly weds at the time was 41 Wargrave Rd Roxeth, if that's any help.Thank you for your efforts!.
