Looking for information on the British community in this area around 1910. I am searching the Duncan James Lamond family in particular. born Argyll Scotland 1843) He went to India with the 72nd Highland Reg't and retired there about the age of 46 after serving 25 years. I believe he married a woman named Hariette Jane ? who might have been a nursing sister at the Madra Lunatic Asylum. They had one known son, also Duncan James Lamond. Duncan Jr. married Dorothy Ross (born Delhi) and had three sons. Two immigrated to Canada 1960/70 era, the third immigrated to North Carolina in the 1980s.

Entering LAMOND turns up some people who look like yours

Military, medal rolls:
Lamond    James    93rd Foot (Sutherland Highlanders)l
Lamond    James    72nd Foot (Duke of Albany's Own Highlanders)
Lamond    Duncan    78th Foot (Highland)

There are a few marriages there, but (after  a very quick look) I couldn't see a Dorothy.

That's my guy! I have copies of those records from the Archives in England. I am searching other family members in Scotland and India. I have one known son for him, also Duncan James, wondering if there are siblings? Alos more information on the wife, Hariett Jane.

The IGI has an extracted entry for the birth of a daughter Gladys Amelia Lamond, 27 Apr 1896, to Duncan James and Harriet.

Thank you. I have found these birth registrations as well. Gladys is definitely part of the family I am searching but still trying to link the other three. I'm wondering if Harriet died and he remarried? Does anyone know? It's difficult for me to search the British BMD from Canada.

The Indian BMD for the East India Co have all been filmed and these films are available through the LDS Family History Centres. Any births and marriages for the Lamonds in India should be on these. They are all indexed and the index films are best looked at first and entries and folios noted for the ones you are looking for before ordering the main registers.

Could anyone advise me where to search for a marriage between Duncan James/James Duncan and Harriet Amelia/Amelia? I believe they were of the RC faith.
