Isle of Skye
« on: Sunday 21 January 07 16:51 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the birth of a Robert Moar who married in 1908 - so i think he was born around 1888-1880.  I first thought he was born in Edinburgh but have been told since he was born on the Isle of Skye.  He was a policeman in Edinburgh

I have put Isle of Skye in the google serach engine but just keeping getting Skye-Kin, are these the only people who have access to the births on skye?

Thanks Jan

Hi Jan,

All Scottish BMD (within date limits) are available pay per view.

All the info can be found here...
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,24468.0.html

Pre 1855 baptisms will be available on films at LDS or some libraries and some users may have access.  But anything post then will cost a cuople of £ to view.

All the best,
Pam

Thanks Pam for the info and the links.

Yikes I am no good on pay per view sites.. I wasted a whole 10 credits in a few seconds because i didnt know what i was doing, so it really scares me how much it will cost me to find things out... :-\

I had a look at the scotland gro site and it was not easy to understand as i thought it could be, maybe it is just me being thick! I will have to get my bearings getting round the site so that i dont waste any credits.. .

Are you sure it was Skye?

Going by this thread, http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,208877.0.html, Robert Moar married Eliza Taylor in 1908 and their son was another (?) Robert Flint Moar in the same year. I found the Leith one too, I think this is the most probable one.  :)

Yes he married Eliza Taylor in 1908, in prestwich, Manchester.  They had a son Robert Flint Moar in the same year (naughty naughty) and they also had a child jessie in 1910 also born Prestwich.

Robert Flint Moar senior died in Manchester, but no one is sure of the year.  I have not been able to find his death on the lancashire bmd(yet)

My husband has just got back from his mums and he has the marriage cert between Roberts daughter Mary Moar born Prestwich 1912.  It gives Roberts  profession as retired police officer.  The marriage was in 1933... so if he was the Robert born in Leith he would be 52, so that seems likely doest it?

Thank you for your kind help and suggestions
