I was warned off heading to the Globe several years ago.I take it the situation remians much the same? Would anyone be able to tell me the occupants of Lair 31 C.D? I would be very grateful. Is there anyway of finding out if there is still a headstone or inscription at this location? Many thanks in advance.

Hi, I don't know about visiting the Globe but I would try the Motherwell Heritage Centre.

North Lanarkshire Heritage Centre High Road, Motherwell ML1 3HU Tel 01698274590

I got some grave info from them and they were very helpful. :)

Re: Globe Cemetery & JARVIE family
« Reply #66 on: Monday 01 August 16 19:16 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Would anyone be able to photograph tombstones for the Jarvie family?

Most interested in my great great grandparents:
John Jarvie, b 1828 d 1882 and his wife, Mary Gray, I think they are both in
Lair 137-8Ee at GLOBE cemetery.

Mary Jarvie - age 21 - Lair 154CE Globe - b 1862 - died 21 Jan 1884

John Jarvie - (Junior) - Lair CE154 Globe - b 1867 - died May 1903
(Don't know if his wife, Jemima Baxter Jarvie, is buried there - she was alive in 1940 - I think).  They also had children Jemima Jarvie (154CE Globe) and Matthew Jarvie d 1904 also CE154 Globe.

There is also sister Margaret Jarvie - b 1869 d 1898 - lair 107Ee GLOBE.
And twin sisters, Margaret and Jane - born 1866 and died 1866 - I am not sure where they are buried - Sighthill or the GLOBE.

Any help would surely be appreciated.

Thank you,
Laura Holland
Canada

I have a Margaret Jarvie buried at the Globe cemetery

Hi, I have tried to find the Globe Cemetery a couple of times, but could not find it. I can see it on the old maps but could not find access.  I know children of my ancestors are buried there, and as they lived at Old Logans and Roman Rd, its possible some of the parents are there. Their name was Muircroft/Moorcroft. According to the council webpages the cemetery is closed?. Can you help, Thanks.

sorry I didn't have info on Muircroft most of the headstones are lying flat for safety.

Hi

Looking for ancestors I recently visited the Globe Cemetery in Motherwell, although I didn't find what I was looking for I took pictures of some of the remaining headstones and transcriptions.  I'll make a list and if anyone is interested would post it on the site or send it to them personally.

Motherwell heritage centre were fab. So helpful. They did indeed advise against visiting the Globe cemetery.  I found details of lair 31 CD which has James McPherson d. 1928, Janet Ferguson d. 1942 and Mary Cram d. 1900. Does anyone know if a stone for them still exists at the cemetery, or even better have a photograph of it? Thank you
