POW : Stalag XXA/B
« on: Monday 29 January 07 17:38 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find more information about my Granddad's time as a POW.

According to the info I have from the ICRC, he was captured at Fecamp on 11.6.1940 and arrived at Stalag XXA on 9.7.1940 having come from a Dulag?

He was then transferred to Stalag XXB on 1.3.1941 for the remainder of the war. His unit was 4th Battalion, East Kent Buffs.

He was a private, service number 6286966 and POW number 13947. His name was Eric Earl Flisher.

Thanks

Hi,

There should be a PoW/Liberation questionaire which should be in a file at the National Archives. I have only looked at Air Force ones, but it will be in the W0344 series I believe. Some reports are digitised on the Documents Online site I think. I have to say that I am not sure about this file ref as I have not looked at PoW reports, only Escape & Evasion and Liberation reports, but hopefully someone may be able to give you some more specific information. If there is something in the latter series of the WO304 reports, unfortunately these are not indexed, I and a couple of others have started to try and make an index of the Air Force reports, but I have nothing for Army.

Regards,

Ann

Hope that makes sense!

Yes, I think he was in Torun first (XXA) and then Marienburg (now Malbork) afterwards (XXB).
