My ancestor, William MAYO (1800 - 1878), junior, son of William MAYO senior and Sarah BIRT, was born in Friar Waddon, Dorset; his private baptism was recorded in Upwey, Dorset, on December 29th., 1800; he was baptized in Portisham, Dorset, on February 8th., 1801.
On June 8th., 1831, in Piddlehinton church, William MAYO of Piddletown married Rebecca STONE, in the presence of John Tizard STONE and Judith STONE; Rebecca had been baptized in Piddlehinton on June 10th., 1809, a daughter of Henry and Jane (nee TIZARD) STONE, farmers of Piddlehinton; William was a yeoman farmer in Little Piddle (in Puddletown) till about 1833; from about 1834 William was a yeoman farmer of 1,300 acres in Poxwell Manor Farm, Dorset (censuses of 1841, 1851 and 1861); in 1837, William received a legacy from his father, including all his father’s lands in Frome Saint Quinton and Little Puddle Farm in the parish of Puddletown, together with his lands in the parish of Piddlehinton called Druzella, Cleaves Fords and Granges; William was a churchwarden in Poxwell from 1834 to 1867; for the 1871 census, William 71, a retired farmer, was enumerated in Charminster, with Rebecca 62 and son, Charles, 21; William 78 died in Dorchester district in Q2 of 1878 (BMD ref: 5a / 234); Rebecca MAYO was staying with her daughter Rebecca BRYANT, in Swyre, for the 1881 census; Rebecca MAYO 74 died in Q4 of 1883 in Dorchester district; William junior and Rebecca had issue.
I know a lot about the ancestors of William MAYO and Rebecca STONE. I would like to contact any researcher or relation of this family. Is there any other researcher of this family out there?
