where do i start
« on: Wednesday 31 January 07 21:40 GMT (UK) »
I had a step brother and 2 step sisters that moved to manchester area in about 1950s.
I know there names and years of birth. But i would love to find out if they married and had children. I know my step brother is no longer alive, and that one sister moved to canada in the late 60s!
How do i start finding out who they married and if they had family etc?
I also know there parents names, they divorced, and both remarried and the children went to manchester with the mum and new husband.
thanks

I think the Salvation Army have a tracing service to help re-unite lost families.

Depends if you're trying to contact them or research them - if the former there's a guide on the British Library site at
http://www.bl.uk/collections/social/spis_tlp.html

If the latter it's the usual trawl through the indices. Worth trying the LancashireBMD & CheshireBMD sites as they cover Greater Manchester between them though are not complete; as well as the full GRO indices elsewhere.

I am afraid most of it applies in the UK, rather than abroad, but it might help.

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)
