Hi there I would appreciate a look up of my great great grandfather Charles Heeley who is listed at various times as either a watchmaker or watch case finisher.

1841 he was apprentice to James Parker and John Court/Couts? in Clerkenwell Middlesex

1846 he must have been in Liverpool as his son was born there

1851 living in Clerkenwell Middlesex

1861-1891 in Liverpool Lancs

Any info on the above names would be great

Thanks
Donna

I have watchmakers in my ATKINS family of Coventry.Three of the sons of Edward and Mary Atkins were born in Clerkenwell, London, Wm, Henry, and George (aged 25, 20 and 15 in 1851 Coventry Census.  I am convinced there were strong links between the Coventry and Clerkenwell watch trade, but would like to know if anyone has more definate proof of this.  Edward Atkins was apprenticed in Coventry 1807 to Wm Hill watchmaker.  Please let me know of any clues that would help further research.
Thank you.

I have discovered that ther is a watchmaker in my tree.

His name was Reuben Benjamin and in 1841 that is teh occuaption he gave in the census.

He does not appear in the 1851 census although his wwife is still listed as married and by the 1861 census she is a widow.

I have been unable to find out anything further about this man. At one time he may have been in Canada as his eldest daughter Rachel was born there in 1836. (Confirmed on all census entries until her death.)

A Reuben Benjamin was transported as a felon to Australia in 1833  completed his sentence by 1840 and died in Golbourn NSW in 1856. No occupation available at present.

What makes it realy tantalising to assume they are the ame man is that his next child after Rachel was not born until 1842!!! His death also fits with the  wife's census  entries for the Reuben Benjamin I am researching.

Any help in finding inforamtion about the watch maker would be appreciated.

I have just found this site and have several watch makers in my family. If somebody could look them up for me it would be appreciated.

John Langford b.1792- watch maker in Clerkenwell, London, addresses are Masons Place 1841 census, and Vincent Terrace in 1851.

His sons all went on to become watch makers in Clerkenwell and in Golden Lane, Cripplegate.
Thomas Langford b. 1821
James b. 1826
Henry b. 1834

thanks
