Alice SLATTER - Steventon
« on: Friday 02 February 07 13:20 GMT (UK) »
My wife and I have just started researching our family tree.

Her grandmother was Alice Slatter born June 1889 in Steventon who married Moses John Prior July 1921 in Basingstoke.

We cannot find any information on Alice Slatter's ancestors.

Any information would be appreciated.
Mynott (Cambridgeshire/Suffolk), Hall (Cambridgeshire), Drake (Cambridgeshire/Derbyshire/Suffolk), Taylor (Cambridgeshire), Fletcher (Berkshire), Prior (Berkshire), Slatter (Berkshire), Gibbs (Berkshire)

Hi Chardine

Welcome to Rootschat!

The best thing to start is to interview any living relatives that might recall names, places etc to help you.  Does anyone have the family papers?

A marriage cert for the couple would give you Alice's father's name and occupation.  You can order it from the GRO once you have a reference, which can be searched for free at www.ancestry.co.uk (use the Complete records, not freebmd)

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

This looks like his marriage to Sarah:

In the 1891 census, he's got a daughter Harriett age 17 (deaf and dumb from childhood) who is with her grandparents in 1881:

Hi - all

From the registers for Steventon - Jesse second marriage

Nov 15th 1885 - Jesse Slatter of full age widower labr. of Steventon son of James Slatter labr.    to     Sarah Slade aged 22 spinster of Steventon daughter of Francis Slade (decd.) lab - by banns witnessed by Thomas Slade and Jemima Tarry.

There are all sorts of other Slatter entries in these registers which you may find useful/interesting - unfortunatly I have to go out now for a couple of hours so i will come back later to see what is needed   :)
