Disappearing Relatives
« on: Friday 09 February 07 09:11 GMT (UK) »
I have a problem with my tree - everyone is there in 1901, 1891, 1881 & 1871 but prior to that absolutly nothing at all

Im looking for Henry Law born 1838 in Deptford Kent, his wife Elizabeth nee Bonham born London 1830 ish and their daughter Elizabeth ( I have Elizabeths birth cert showing 1859 in Clerkenwell) they were probably living in the Clerkenwell/Islington area.

There is a Henry LOW married to Elizabeth Bonham Dec 1865 registered in Greenwich but this would mean that they were living together but not married when their daughter was born ( shock horror  :o  ;D  )

Im tearing my hair out here and I aint got a lot left :) so any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Hi Gez

Welcome to RootsChat  ;D

Do you actually have daughter Elizabeth's certificate? Because if it gives her surname as Law and mother's maiden name as Bonham, I think there just HAS to be an earlier marriage!

Hi Barbara & Gez

If I've got the right family in 1871 (Wellington St Islington) then he was a butcher. Is that right Gez?

Hi all

Henry was variously listed as either a slaughterman or butcher. Some additional info I forgot to post was that his father was also called Henry and was a Coppersmith.

Elizabeths birth cert list her mother as "Elizabeth Law nee Bonham"

Hi Gez

Reluctant though I am to admit failure, I have to say that the little family are proving EXTREMELY elusive in the 1861  :( I've tried every combination I can think of for each of their names and place of birth but no joy so far. I do hope someone else is doing better than me!

Will keep looking though......

Not surprised it's driving you nuts - I'm just relieved that Jan can't find them either  ;D Perhaps they got missed off the census somehow...... Frustrating....
