Hello 'Gadget',

Point taken. I forgot to mention that parents did not match. I wonder if 'jenc' is certain about parentage in the first place. The McLean surnames are ten a penny in Scotland but the Grace forename was never that popular.

Yes, I thought that Tik Tok - I even tried Grizel and variations. Didn't find anything else.

Only other idea was RC, non-conformist or records missing  ???

Will give Monica's advise a go regarding that 1855 birth of son William   Didn't realise that magical year gave all that info. so thanks for that Monica.
On with the hunt. Regards to all Jenc :)

Hi All again
Answering my own post here, but so frustrated!  Just obtained more credits on SP to find William b. 1855, found him,  looked so good, at first, then would you believe, the registrar (sack him now), obviously was mean with dipping his pen in the inkwell............would you believe it, the birthplace of Grace is illegible....AAAAGGGGHHHHHH. So no further forward  Is it always so difficult as this?  Running out of money again.  Got to thinking Grace could have lived in luxury in her time with what i've paid so far on SR Regards to all Jenc

Jenc

Don't despair! If you contact SP re parts of the image being illegible, they will send you out a direct paper copy which nine times out of ten is very clear what is written on the entry. I've always had a quick response when I've had this problem (not uncommon).  Contact them via their site, see this link:

Hi Monica
Just to let you know the progress on Grace. SP got back to me with a clearer version of that 1855 birth certificate.  Place of birth is still a bit hard to make out, but I think it's Badenoch.  Still not very conclusive but a bit more to work on Jenc

Hello,
I know this is a very old post but Grace McLean is my GGGG Grandmother and I have been searching everywhere for any information from the time before or after she was married to my GGGG Grandfather, James Saunders, journeyman Blacksmith, from Auchterhouse, near Dundee.
You are welcome to any information on my tree, and if you'd be able to share what you've found, maybe we can piece it together.
Cheers,
Robi Heiden
