The Gilogley Family
« on: Tuesday 13 February 07 15:40 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I was hoping someone knew some information regarding the Gilogley family that have been found in paisley and seem to have immigrated from ireland.

So far I know these names:

Jane Wallace Gilogley
b.  8/9/1901
m. 30/4/1920
d.  15/2/1976

Joseph Gilogley
b. 3/6/1874

James Gilogley
b. ~ 1853
m. 24/11/1875

Terrence Gilogley
b. ~ 1818
d. 26/2/1878

Owen Gilogley

I hope someone can help me trace other ancestors and I would gladly help others with information if I can.

Regards,

Alan

Years ago there was a jeweller's shop in Paisley called Gilogley. I can't remember if the spelling was the same. The shop was located opposite Paisley Abbey if I recall.
Carnegie, Bushmills County Antrim, McLaughlin Campbell, Ballycastle . Toomey, Limerick, Dolan or Doulan or Doolan. McAlindon

Hi Alan

The family (Terrence) would appear to have arrived from Ireland just before the 1851 Census. Do you have the early censuses info for them and children/siblings by generation?

Regards.

Monica,

I now have census 1851 and 1861 census info for them that was found by joe. But, I think they must have arrived from ireland just before then! I checked the link you gave me and the names seem to match up great to the ones I have but I tried emailing the person who posted the comment but the email failed to send!!! bummer!!!

Joe,

That information is great. I was really struggling to find info! It seems that they either didn't know their ages back then or they just lied at the time of the census because the ages always seem to be slightly out each year! I find that weird. But that info you gave me will be going straight into the family tree, it is great and really appreciated!

I think the next plan is to try and find the gilogley's in ireland somewhere! That will be fun! hehe

Thanks again,

Alan

Hi Alan

Don't despair. There are actually a number of genealogy related posts, all seemingly related back to Owen in Ireland with descendants spread far and wide from America to Australia  :)

If you go to the Ancestry forum boards at http://boards.ancestry.com and key in Gilogley in the search field you will see numerous previous posts come up. Hopefully you can make contact with some of the people there. The surname is relatively uncommon. Given that there seems to have been a lot of migration by the Gilogleys from Scotland, maybe you could put up a new post on Ancestry or respond on these posts and see what comes up (hopefully you will find some active emails  ::)).

In the meantime, let's see what we can find for you here.

Regards.
