My last one for now Alan  8)

Going back to the begining of the Scottish line, Ann wife of Terrence. Following Terrence's death, she remarried at the grand age of 59 to a James Smith in Paisley. She died in 1892, her daughter Hannah reported the death. Her parents show as Owen CALTON, tailor, and Rose X (different maiden surnames in Ann's MC/DC  :-\)

1884   SMITH   JAMES   COLTON   ANN   PAISLEY   /RENFREW   573/00 0431

1892   GILLOGLEY ANN/ SMITH//COLTON   73   PAISLEY   /RENFREW   573/00 0242

Regards.

Monica  :)

This looks like daughter Hannah's marriage entry on IGI:

HANNAH GILLOGLEY  Marriages: Spouse:  PATRICK MELLEY
Marriage:  01 JUN 1866  Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland

And youngest daughter's birth entry on IGI:

MARY JANE GILLOGLEY  Birth: 23 MAR 1858  High Church, Paisley, Renfrew, Scotland Parents: Father: TERANCE GILLOGLEY    Mother: ANN COLTON

Gillogley are popping out everywhere now arghh ;)

Be aware when researching for the Irish roots and searching for Owen that Hugh is a common variant for this name. Also, whilst you search on IGI, because the surname Gillogley is not common, IGI is not automatically showing any standard variants on the surname. You will have to search under each possible variant.

From what I read on the Ancenstry posts, the Gillogleys that came to Scotland, added the 'e' following their arrival in Scotland. The name was originally Gillogly in Ireland (just like my Tulleys  :)).

Looking at the IGI entries for Ireland, Co. Fermanagh seems to be a likely place for you to start your searches in spite of the lack of any hard evidence to date. It does however seem to be where a number of entries are coming up. For example, with the family names we have so far, I wonder if this (submitted) entry may be connected:

Hugh Gillogly     Birth: About 1772  Enniskillen, Fermanagh, Ireland
Death: 1820
Marriages: Spouse: Hannah    Marriage: 1803 Enniskillen, Fermanagh, Ireland

Regards.

Monica (who really is going to bed now ;))

Alan

You might also want to try a post on the Ireland Board here on RootsChat. Probably start on the General Board for Ireland given we are not certain as yet where the family originated from. Hopefully someone with knowledge of Ireland may be able to assist with the research there.

To help people out who are doing any searches for you, it would probably help them if you put a link to this post for background.

Regards.
