John McBride, Margaret McNamee
« on: Monday 19 February 07 13:40 GMT (UK) »
Looking for any information on these two people. They married sometime before 1833 when their son Patrick was born in Tyrone, Ireland.
Am also looking for their births, and any other children they may have had.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

Hello srp123au,

There are three items you require when searching for Irish ancestors.

1. Denomination.
2. Parish
3. Townland.

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Hi srp123au,

I too am a descendant of John McBride & Margaret McNamee by way of Patrick born in 1833. I know that Patrick was married to Ellen Matthews (of John Matthews & Jane Mullins) around 1854, I assume near Omagh, Parish Drumragh, as that was from where Patrick joined the 2/18 Royal Irish Regiment in August 1858. The marriage location is somewhat of a guess on my part, but they were Roman Catholics if that helps. I am eager to find more information about their family roots too.

Kind regards, Pete McBride

Hi abjkcw6,

Could it be that the Margaret McNamee (b. 1856) you mentioned might be a niece of the Margaret being sought here. Do you have any more details relative to William McNamee (1814-91), who could have been a brother relative of the older Margaret.

Regards,

Pete McBride
