Which registration/census district
« on: Wednesday 24 November 04 11:55 GMT (UK) »
Hi there, I hope someone can help me with this little query.  I am looking into my family who lived in the Clerkenwell, Pancras, Islington bit of London around 1900.  They moved around a bit, but not far.  What I am trying to understand is how, say from a birth cert with district Pancras I can determine the streets they possibly lived in. i.e what did Pancras cover in terms of streets.

Also with census returns.  How can I determine which EDs covered which streets, or at least narrow them down, without reading every front page description.

I really want to do this online if possible.
Many thanks for any help

Here's a start:

This gives each of the London districts with each of the parishes within that district:

http://www.fhsc.org.uk/genuki/REG/lnd.htm

This gives the London streets and tells you where they are - possibly the other way around from what you want though:

Thanks for that Caslguidi - I suppose its too much to hope for a map with the boundaries marked?

Try this link for all kinds of London genalogical links including maps:

http://homepages.gold.ac.uk/genuki/LND/

alternatively, typing in something like ............. London old maps ............... into your usual search engine will biring up loads of sites which may be of interest:

I find that my current day London A-Z street map book is very good to point me in the right direction to start with.

Alternatively, all I can think of is wading through the census to see which streets are covered by which church/parish.
