Spillane .. Co Cork
« on: Sunday 25 February 07 22:09 GMT (UK) »
I would like to find anyone who is part of the Spillane family for CO Cork.

I know the parants were Margaret and Maurice Spillane.
Duaghters Norah, Ellen and Annie and I think a son David but usure of the son.

I think Annie married someone with the surname of Ainworth.
Also unsure but think Annie had two childrencalled Anita and Daniel.

I know that Norah married Patrick Joseph Collins and moved to Fleetwood Lancs England.

Would appreciate any help from anyone.

Thanks Choco

Hello Pat,

If you haven't done so already post details to the Editor of "The Corkman."

Family History queries to newspapers sometimes produce good results.

I am descended from the Spillane's of County Cork (originally spelt Spullane I believe until it was anglicised) born in 1804 in Cork.

My 3 x great greatmother was Johanna Spillane of Cork City, the daughter of James Spullane and Honora Neill who were married in 1799 in the Parish of St. Mary's and St. Annes.  Johanna was in service and on the information so far, a recalcitrant thief.  She was finally convicted and transported to New South Wales after being tried several different times for various thefts.

Johanna also had siblings named Margaret, James and Mary if this helps anyone identify the family.

I have a fair amount  of information on Johanna and would be interested in making contact with anyone who might be descended from her parents or even her siblings.

Kreewater,

The Spillane family in Fermoy, Co. Cork, is in the 1911 census, in the National Archives

Do you have a family tree?  I believe the servant Annie Crofton is my grandmother, so I am interested if there are any historical notes.  She moved to Portsmouth and married Archie Bennett in 1917, my Dad's father.
